The Lead Generation Process, Part 2

Welcome to Part 2 of my series on The Lead Generation Process

In my previous article in this series, I discussed some of the reasons why purchased leads are not typically very responsive.  If you want good leads for your business, you will need to learn how to generate your own leads.

In this article, we will look at what you will need to do in order to start generating your own leads.

First, we know that, in order to attract leads, you will need to offer them something in return for their contact information.  So the primary action on your part is to do market research.  Get a feel for your chosen market.  Try to think of a product or service which would be of great benefit to them.

Now that you have developed an eBook, a free report, or some kind of free service, the question becomes: what do you do with this free 'thing' in order to attract leads?

Well, first you will need to acquire a domain name and set up an account with a hosting provider.

Then of course you will need to create the offer page or pages, either by doing it yourself or hiring someone to do it for you.

In order to get the page noticed by the search engines, you will need to make sure that it is optimized properly, by doing some keyword research and analysis and then optimizing your page for the search engines. More research and education for you, or again you can outsource this.

Now you will need an autoresponder service in order to store the contact information for the leads who accept your offer, and to follow up  with them.

Now that you have all these in place, you can start to promote the pages.  There are many ways to promote: writing Press Releases, writing articles, blogging, forum postings, PayPerClick, classified advertisements, and so on.  A comprehensive promotional campaign will incorporate many or all of these.

Sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it?  Well, you're right!  It is a lot of work.  But the end product is worth it - leads who are interested in what you are offering and who are exclusive to you.

However, the task is not as onerous as you might think.  If you use the right system with the right training, a lot of this can be automated and your learning curve can be shortened.  In the next segment of this series, I will show you my system for taking the task of generating leads from a seemingly insurmountable task to almost pushbutton ease.
